In connection with the break in the Otir.-i line. I)r K. Teiehohiiann. of ITokitika, ;i member of the Westland branch sof the Canterbury Progress I/oagiie. told a newspaper reporter at Christchurch that newspaper articles about it had been the means of preventing «, large number of visitors from going to the Coast after they had made all arrangements to do so. Although it was a little late in the day now, ho said, he desired to draw attention to the fact that as the service cars always meet the train at Arthur’s Pass to convey sightseers over the hill, there had been no justification whatever for the cancellation of toms? on account of a small break in the railway line. In any case the Tourist Department generally advise visitors to take the hill trip one way so as to see the gorge. Dr Teiehelmann said that the Coast had lost a fair amount of business from the North Island through the circulated reports concerning the break and a great- many people were under the impression that there had been a break in the road. This was not the ease, and be desired t-o call attention to the alternative route in the event of any similar trouble occurring in the future.
