A NAP-ROW ESCAPE. ASHPUPOX. Dec. IP A narrow escape from serious injury, if not dc-nth, occurred at the Havelock Street level crossing. Ashburton. about 10.30 yesterday morning. . \ heavy dray, drawn bv a team ot three horses and driven by Alt’ AA . Kelly, who was accompanied by a )k>v named Kermeen. of Xewhinds. a son of the owner of the dray, was proceeding up Havelock Street about 10-30. and the driver did not notice the approach of a coods train from Timaru. his attention being fixed on a train which was shunting near the station The engine struck the leading hm-so and threw it into the air clear of the train. The dray was not capsized and the driver and his companion and the two rear horses escaped unhurt. . The leading horse was badly cut about the left shoulder, hut was otherwise unhurt, and, after receiving veterinary attention, was able to proceed to a stable. . , , .. The only damage sustained by the dray was a broken shaft.
