[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] TIIIC DEPORTATION ISSUE. ’SYDNEY, Doc. 10. :Im immioncing (lint (lie Court luul reserved its judgment in I lie deportation cases, the Chief .Justice refused the application for Die release of \\ alsh and .Johnson on bail, stating the decision would bo delivered as speedily as possible. A definite split in tbo Dabour Government is threatened on the deportation issue. Dissension is rampant in the ranks of the industrialists on the question a.s to whether action should he taken to resist deportation. A special meeting of the transport group flouted the directions of the State Labour Council that a mass stop work meeting of members of all unions affiliated with the croup should be called for to-day. 'I he proposal was rejected, the delegates declining to tarry out the council’s orders. Ibis action will he discussed at a nrtetiug ol the council to-night. when attempts will lie made to overrule the group s decision and compel the unions comprising the croup to carry out the wishes of the council. Iho delimit attitude of the proup is expected to induce some members oi the Labour Council t.) urge the enforcement of the clause in the council's constitution providing for suspension or the expulsion of refractory unions.
An interesting feature ol the dipole is that the seamen had led the section that favours inaction with reference to deportation, their principal reason being that the allied unions are not prepared to give any guarantees if support.
