AN EARTHQUAKE.
There was a prolonged earthquake experienced this morning at 1.20 o’clock, it was a long shock, lasting some ten seconds, hut was not of a very heavy nature. It appeared to come from the north-east. AT GRKYAIOLTii. At a quarter past one o’clock this morning, a pronounced earthquake was felt in Greyinoutli, the direction of which was from south to north. The lirst was the heaviest tremor, which was sue,ceded by several of diminishing power. The quake lasted for over ten seconds. (NELSON CHIMNEYS DAMAGED, nr TELEGRAPH —PRESS assn., copyright NELSON. Dec. 10. The severest earthquake shock felt in Nelson for many years was exjierienced at 1.13 this morning. Many chimneys are damaged. CHRISTCHURCH, December 10. A smart shock of earthquake was ex- , periencod in Christchurch at 1.13 this morning. It was sufficiently severe to wake sleepers and to ring the hell of the clock at the Post Office.
