In consequence of a decline in the price of cattle and sheep at the Westfield fat stock market, the Auckland butchers’ association has decided from Monthly next that all eats shall I>e redll cod l>v Ul to Id per pound, the larger concession applying to most of the popular cuts. DFNEDI.N, December 5. I n reference to the Auckland message announcing a cut. in the prices of meat, Dunedin butchers stated that there was no immediate prospect of a local drop in values. The wholesale reduction was only a matter of (ho last two weeks and had affected medium rather than prime cattle. The last four months had lioeit one of the worst periods in the history of Dunedin trade. The drop in Burnside values was largely due to the fact that many butchers had bought outside, .so that ii was not indicative of the condition ot the market. At the same time an early drop in fat stock values is anticipated with an equivalent concession to the public. TA KARINA BACK ACCIDENTS. ACCKLaND. Dee. 7. Ihe Judicial Committee of the lakapuna Jockey Club has concluded its inquiries concerning the accidents at Its recent Spring meeting. It states: A statement having been published that the accidents which occurred at the meeting were due to the condition of the racecourse, the Judicial Committee in conjunction with the .Stipendiary Steward, have made a carol ii I investigation as to the corroot-ne-s of the statement, and find that it is absolutely without foundation, and that the accident* which occurred "ere wholly due to happenings during the running of the ra-es. The evidence given bv the jockeys during the several inquiries into the accidents conclusively proved the falls of the horses were wholly accidental, and that the lakapuna racecourse was in excellent order and condition.
