EVERYBODYS PICTURES. .“A THIEF IX PARADISE” TO-XrO HT! TO-NIGHT I George Fitzinaiirico, noted motion picture director, has turned to Die bottom ol' tlie sea for inspiration in the designiiig of novel backgrounds for ilie action in his latest Goldwyn-First National picture, “A Tldef in paradise. 1 ’ at the Princess Theatre tonight. An under-sea garden serves as the background for an exotic South Ta dance by Aileen Pringle, who shares featured honors with Doris Kenyon and Ronald Colmaii. The setting consisted of a reproduction of a section of the marine gardens familiar to excursionists aboard glass lmttomed boats, hut reproduced on a gigantic scale for screen purposes. A huge sea shell, large enough to hold Miss Pringle. was one of the Important, parts of the setting and the entire set was scaled on this enormous shell. The dance and its setting are a part of a lavish society ball which furnishes one of the many colorful episodes of this adaption of Leonard .Merrick's popular novel. “The Worldlings.” Claude Gillingwater, Alee Francis and .lohii Patrick head the supporting east. The story, an adaptation by Francos Marion of Leonard .Merrick’s novel. “ I hr Worldlings.” opens with a vivid episode in tile pearl fisheries ol the ( hilu) Coast, and progresses swiftly to San Francisco. Burlingame and. Del .Mottle, Calif. It is the story of a man whom Fate lias made a failure, and who seizes the opportunity to masquerade as another man in one last eflort to regain his self-respect. Mis accomplice in the impersonation is an Furnsian girl who falls in love with him and stops at nothing to win him. In the role ol another man. he meets and eventually marries another girl. Ihe dramatic possibilities of this situation are worked out in the ultimate limit.
