Association carnival on Saturday Handel A. llose. long distance champion, made an unsuccessful attempt to break tlie throe mile Australasian record, established on the local ground at the championship meeting last season. llis time for the distance was lo minutes A 3-A seconds. i’ll 2-5 seconds short of the record. A strong westerly wind that swept the ground militated against fast time, while in addition to this there was not a competitor capable of extending Hose, and he had to finish the last three quarters of a mile without being paced. He sprinted over the last forty yards and finished comparatively fresh amidst the plaudits of a large crowd- of spectators.
