ROSS NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). 1 reget having to record the death of an esteemed townsman in the person of Air Charles Black, licensee of the City Hotel, which took place on Monday afternoon about five o clock, after an illness extending over a year during which time he had gradually been fading away. The deceased was a native of Hokitika and A!) years oi age. For many years he had resided ill the Reefton district, hut some 1 5 years ago he came to Ross, and for tho last 12 years had been licensee 1 first of the Junction Hotel and then of the City Hotel. Mr Black took a prominent part in civic matters here and at the time of his death was a member of tho Ross Borough Council and Ross Fire Brigade. He leaves a wife, two brothers, who reside in Reefton. and a sister. (Airs Boyle of Wellington). Many friends will regret tho passing of a good friend, and the sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved wife and relatives. The funeral takes place to Row cemetery on Wednesday afternoon.
