GI-lOST THAT IS NO GHOST. LONDON, October 5. A ghost that is no ghost is agitating Hoxton. In the dusk of .Sinulay evening a large crowd leathered round an undertakers’ slioj» in Hoxton road. Through the window lour completely furnished collins could he seen, and a thrill ran through the crowd when a man, with face pressed close to the window, said ; a woman, who had been lying in one of the coffins awaiting burial, had risen and walked away. From this story grew others. Ghosts had been seen walking in the building : a woman, who was not dead, had been *■ screwed up ” and forced her way out of a coffin and so on. As rumours spread the crowd grew, and the police were compelled repeat- j odlv to keep fascinated spectators of the grim, shadowy interior moving. The undertakers’ announcement that nothing abnormal had occurred failed to convince the curious. Throughout Sunday night and all day yesterday crowds continued to assemble. " We cannot convince them there is nothing wrong,” said the caretaker to a reporter last night. *• They were convinced someone had arisen from the dead or that a ghost had Keen seen, hut nothing unusual has happened. AVe had four coffins finished for despatch on Saturday night, and they have been visible over the week-end. 1 believe an ‘ old wives’ ’ tale to be responsible for it nil.” ,
