[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] BRITISH COMMUNISTS TRIAL. THE SENTENCES. LONDON, November 25. The Communists, Inkpin, Rust, Poliltt, Gallagher and ILuiningtoii on Being convicted, were sentenced to twelve months. The seven others, cut refusing to lie hound over, were each sentenced to three months. Each Communist prisoner wore a red. rosette. The Judge, in sentencing them, said, that it was obvious from the evidence that they were members of an illegal party carrying on illegal work in England and it must be stopped. Tho five who were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment line! been convicted before. The Judge said the was. not anxious, if lie could avoid it, to send the other seven to prison. Those, who pomised to have nothing more to. do with this Association would he. hound over to good behaviour. The Judge asked each of the seven whether they would he bound over. Each replied emphatically in tho negative. LONDON, November 25. Messrs R. MacDonald. J. IT. Thomas and P. Snowden, and other Labourites, have tabled a motion to be discussed in the House of Commons on Tuesday that the action of the Government in : initiating a. prosecution of certain members of the Communist Party was a violation of the traditional British rights of freedom of speech and publication of opinion.
STORM IN BRITAIN. LONDON, Nov. 25. Terrible north easterly gales struck the east coast:, accompanied by heavy falls of snow. A Scottish drifter foundered at Fbmibnroimli Head.
