CANTERBURY AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

The usual monthly meeting of the general committee of the above Association was held in the County Chamters I on November 24th, when Hie following I members were present : —Dr Teichelmann (Chair). J. Turner, W. Harrington. C. Gnylor. 1). Stuart, 0. Perry and .1. Robinson. Tbe minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence was read and eonfirmed. 1X WA RD CORK ESPOXDEXCK. From General (secretary re subscriptions.—Received. From Minister of Railways re Warning Signals on Tereinakau Bridge.— Received. From Station Master, Hokitika reblocking of Weld Street crossing.— Received. From YVcstlai.il County Council re wandering stock, roads and signs.— Received. Main Highways Boaril re Main Christchurch, Road.—Received. From Tawera County Council re Main Christchurch Road.—Received. Thl> following new members were proposed and duly elected : A\ . \\ right, E. J. Woodbury, C. Preston, F. Andrews. W. 11. Newman. H. C. Newman. R. Orr. and W. Williams. .Moved by Dr Tcichelmann that the secretary he instructed to send a copy of the Tawera County Council’s letter to the Minister of Tourists and Health Resorts with the suggestion that the Minister’s Department make an annual vote for the maintenance of the road referred to and also a copy of the same letter te* sent to the Minister of Public Works. Seconded by Mr Perry and carried.
The secretary reported on the visit of Mr Torrens’, the Official Oganisor. Moved by Dr Teielielmann that the secretary be instructed to write to the parent hotly and ask it it is possible to arrange a visit trom ( hristchurch motorists early in tlm New Year, the Wetland members to meet them at Otirn where a picnic could be held. Seconded by J. Robinson ami carried. Moved by Mr Robinson that this branch call the parent body s attention to the bad loading arrangements
for motor-cars at tin* Christchurch Railway Station and ask them to have something done regarding the matter. Seconded by Mr Gnylor and carried. Moved by Mr Gnylor that the Station Master be asked to see that the driver’s of incoming trains be instructed to whistle sooner on approaching Hampden Street crossing, several complaints having been received by the Association regarding this. Seconded hv Mr Turner and carried. ’Muted by Mr Stuart that tbe secretary he instructed t*> have ‘•danger” signs erected on each side ot the \\ eld Street Railway crossing. Seconded by Mr Berry and carried. Moved by Mr Stuart that the Main Highways Board he asked to widen the road at the turn before the summit of tbe Ross Cemetery Hill and advising to contrillte part of the cost il the work was undertaken. Seconded by Mr Turner and carried. Moved by Mr Harrington that the secretary bi> instnicfed to communicate with the Greymoiith Association asking them to co-operate with this Association in erecting something practicable in tbe wav of a warning signal at tbe Tcremakau Bridge. Seconded by Mr Stuart and carried. The meeting then concluded with a vote oi thanks to the chair.
