Butter: The market lias l.ec-n dull mid slow ever since Loudon received advice of the sailng of the s.s. “Riialiine.” the first, steamer to sail trom New Zealand with new season's butter, and foretelling the collapse of the strike. Prices declined steadily to the present level of 208 s, with dull market, hut mi arrival of new season's lniiter. per “Rtiahine.” a hotter demand with tinner market is reported. No New Zealand butter is due to arrive between the 22nd. of this month and (lie 17th. of December. It is. therfore. probable that the market will show a firming tendency up to Christmas. Should | rices advance. however, factories should not become too optimistic, as 'the December arrivals will lie equal to tile average of previous years, whilst January arrivals will show a JO |X;r cent, increase on last year's figures. Cheese:—Quotations have been practiealy nominal as stocks of New Zealand have been (leared. Arrival- during December and January skew a very heavy increase on Inst year, so that it is unlikely that prices will remain at the present high level. However, il must he remembered that a very big percentage of the elu-ose that will be arriving in January lias been sold at round about til's landed. Consequently those buyers who have heavy stocks at this figure will he doing their utmost to hold the market up. Forward:— Owing to the anticipated heavy arrivals of both butter and obee.se towards the end of December, and during January, forward buyers 'how no interest, preferring to wait arrivals before filling their requirements. As far ns New Zealand Dairy Produce is concerned, the statistics point to a weaker market, as so nun-h as 12. ct!;) tons of butter and 13.000 tons of cheese are due to arrive in the Itnited Kingdom during January, a record quantity for this month.
