Tlie Five State Revenue returns for the first half of the financial year show n revenue of £12..m2!)6 and an expenditure of £12,CM3.1 til leaving a surplus of £346.13d. The biggest falling-off is m Customs and Excise, probably accounted for by the abolition of the ten duty and a reduction in the sugar duty. For the financial year ended in April last there was a deficit of £532.020. Dublin municipal emplyees have withdrawn the notices to strike issued as a protest against the contract for cleansing the streets being given to a French firm, the City Commissoners undertaking to find empfoynient for another year for the employees not required in the streeCfleanuig department.
