A Press Association telegram from Christchurch states that Mr Arthur ij. Wylie. Associate Editor of the •Lyttelton Times.'’ who lias accepted a similar position on the Sydney “Bulle:in.” was the guest of the C'liristliurcli branch of the Journalist-s’ A-so-iation at afternoon tea. and was made •he recipient of a gold pencil and gold Mounted fountain pen, on behalf of the .executive. The presentation was made ' v Mr At. E. Lyons. M.P. (President ,f the Association). There was a gathering of sixtv-eight members at the function.
At its meeting this week, the Buller County Council spent some time discussing travelling expenses, on which the Audit Department has made surcharge.-. A list was read out of the claims made by the Department ranging from £3B against one Councillor, down to small amounts. Some of the Councillors had met the claims originally made, hut fresh surcharges were demand for the current period. . The Chairman stated later: “This is the third meeting at which no travelling expenses fiave been passed.”
