Yes. there is plenty ot “ human interest ” in this tale of a waif of the sea and her gruff old guardian, tin* keeper of the little lighthouse on the .Maine coast. Her story is one of the oldest stories in the world, and one of the best. I'.ven the happy ending seems inevitable. The thousands of Captain .January’s admirers who know her in l.aura E. liichards’ hook, will lie augmented hy the millions who wilt see “ Captain January ” on the screen ami laugh with this tiny little madcap as she slides down the curving stairway in the lighthouse as she frolics with her queer old companions. They will softer with her, too. when she is separated from, these companions, and rejoice with her when everything is dually settled. "Captain .January” is a delightful screen story for young folks and old. Of course, the cynical and sophisticated limy turn up their noses, hut everyday human folks will love ” Captain January'’ as she deserves to he loved. Bn by Peggy’s performance of "Captain January '' i-. one of the marvels of the cinema. This mite of a child has learned the art of expressing changing emotions with an uncanny power. She is a little Mary Bickford who can count her birthdays on one hand. Baby Peggy as a player is worthy of the excellent east supporting her, which is headed by Hobart Boswortb as the grim old lighthouse keeper, and Mi-s Irene Jiieh as ilm lady who discovers the identity of the little waif and works oul the happy ending.
