HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

TILED AY, X'OV. 17th. The adjourned meeting of the Council was held at 8.5 p.tn. Present: .Messrs 0. A. Perry (Mayor), H. M. Coulson, J. King. D. ,T. Evans, A\ . Jeffries. IC Orr, CL Heinz, G. H. Blank and IT. T. Parry. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD COR DESPONDENCE. From 11. R. Mottram. asking for footpath on east side of Brittan Street lie formed, as previously promised.— Received. The Mayor suggested the Public Works Committee report at next meeting as to a schedule ol footpaths to receive early attention. Agreed to. From E. Shndbolt and others complaining of state of drainage in vicinity of their properties,—Received : referred to Public Works Committee to attend to. From N.Z. Refrigerating Cov. noticing -17 dressed sheep bad been forwarded from Christchurch to Hokitika during the period.—Received. From D. J. Evans, stating a memorial had been erected in Mnenndrcw Square to commemorate the International Exhibition at Hokitika and the diamond jubilee of "Westland, and he asked the Borough Council to take over the charge thereof and keep it in order. Received. The Mayor moved that a very hearty vote of thanks lie passed to Mr Evans for his valued gift. In all his public actions Mr Evans showed the best of citizenship, and at all times did bis utmost to advance the town. Tlio thanks of the Community and Borough Council were due to ATr Evans far bis very fine gift. Mr Jeffries seconded the motion. As one associated with Mr Evans in connection with the exhibition be recognised the splendid work he bad done, and the optimism he" bad at all times shown even when the outlook "as of the blackest. Ho appreciated the splendid memorial presented. Mr Coulson supported and endorsed, ft was another mark of true citizenship on the part of Mr Evans. He recognised that (lie heart and soul of Air Evans was in Hie welfare and advancement of the town, even though on occasion they may differ on minor

points. The motion was agreed to. From Department of Health, .notifying sanitary officials’ conference at Dunedin and inviting attendance of council’s officer.— Received. From W. Connor, asking that the abattoir cottage be repaired, painted and ropapored. Received and referred to the Abattoir Committee for report. From (!revmoiiib Waterside AVorkers’ Fnion applying for the use of Cass Square for their annual picnic on Jan. HOlh.- Received and request granted on usual conditions. From W. Duncan and Co. a.-king for approval of transfer of section at Koilerangi.- Received and granted. RE BOUTS. The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £11)9 Is Hd; that £ll> 10s be voted to the Kama rst Jubilee Celebration Committee; £SO to the Progress League in connection with the Dunedin Exhibition and £lO 10s be passed to Air C. Gibbons in recognition of extra services rendered. —Received and adopted. The Treasurer reported receipts £285 BE 8d payments £855 As 7d. credit balance £337 Is Sd. loan account credit £509 9s 4d.- Received. From Mnanger Abattoirs reporting for October there were examined : cows. 2:1 heifers, 7:1 bullocks. 158 sheep, 0 pigs, 5 calves. Condemned 1 bullock, I pig. Fees for month £O3 l<s (Id (£OB 15s for same month last year).

Received. From Reserves Committee recommending Air Krakowskv be given a tacitly understood lease for 21 years of Hie reserve on the east town boundary on the present terms, with right of revision of rental every seven years. Received and adopted. The T’ublio Works Committee were 1 -d to supply a full report for next mooting of the cos, of the Rowell Streetdrain. It was also reported that the tar boiling plant- bad now been completed and it. was proposed to carry out the tar-sealing of Re veil St. forthwith. The Council rose at 8.30 p.m.
