[by TELEOEAPH FEB. PEESB ASSOCIATION-J GIFT TO LIBRARY. AUCKLAND, Nov. 16. A notable collection of New Zealand books lias been presented to the Auckland University College by the Hon. Geo. Fowlds. Its value is stated to bo over £IOOO. Mr Fowlds, in intimating his gift to the College Council, said
that, ultimately, his whole collection would go to the college, PRESHY TEH lA N fl KN EH AI. ASSEMBLY. DUNEDIN. Nov. IC. To-day was the .sixth day of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. The Church Property Trustees’ report was adopted, also the jeport of the Supply and Appoint neats Committee. The report of the Committee on the Unification of the Jiemulation re charges was adopted. Considerable discussion took place on the right- of call, the proposal of the report being adopted after many opinions had been expressed. Deputations were received from all denominations in the city and welcomes were extended. Members of the New Zealand Alliance were also present and addressed the house and received an enthusiastic promise of support and sympathy. Mr D. Caldcr, representative of the British and Foreign Bible Society, was also received. The Temperance Committee’s report emphasised the need for the education of the young in temperance principles and a determination was expressed to 1 carry on the light. A deliverance adopted urged on the Government the necessity to introduce into the schools scientific information concerning the effect of alcohol, and urged that, in view of the legislation to lie introduced in future, their JK'ople should impress on the Members of Part? i l 1 Tu-a
