.MONDAY. NOV. 16th. The Board met at 8,2.3 p.m. Present: .Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), \Y. Jeffries, R. Meharry, T. IV. Duff, (!, Davidson and A. B. Spiers. Apolo- , gies were made for the absence of Messrs Blank. Morel and \\ ells. The minutes were confirmed and outward eorrespondenee apiiroveu. IN WAR D COR UESPONDENCE. From Auditor-Cencral, AVellington, acknowledging statement that interest has keen credited to loan account. — Received. From Dr Valintine in reference to financial position dealing with midwifery.—Received. From National Provident Fund Board in regard to becoming contributors for persons on the permanent staff and giving particulars of the scheme. — Received. The Secretary stated that the employees had declined to find two-thirds of the premium, and the Beard would have to pay one third. Mr Jeffries moved that an eruptiry la’ made as to the position of the Board in view of the refusal of the staff to join. Seconded hy .Mr Duff and carried. From Hospital Board’s Association, in regard to Ucsyital Board debentures.— Received. From same in regard to the annual conference to tic held in Dunedin in February.- Received. Front State Advances Department m reference to an advance to a deceased’s estate. Received. From Railway Trallh- Manager in regard to loading, of trucks, and to potmissiou to Use siding at Sea View.— Received. From J. A. Burns, acting postmaster in regard to registration of motor am-bulance.--Received. From New Zealand Trained Nurses’
Association following resolution passed in regard to nurses fees, etc.—Received. Front Dr Rail'd applying for annual leave of absence.- Received and agreed to, Dr Teiehelnmnn to net during his absence. From Nurse Freda { lark resigning position of nurse at 'Westland 'Hospital. —Received and accepted, a vote of appreciation being passed. From W. .Marks, resigning position as wardsinan at the O.P. Home.—Reccive:l and accepted. Mr Edwin Cochrane was appointed to the position. Mr K. Freitas was appointed to fill the position at present held by Cochrane of assistant dairyman. From A. R. Kleoek. offering a tworoomed cottage in Beach St., owned by Mrs Hall, for £lo. Received and accepted, the Chairman’s action being approved. Mr .lellrios stated tbat he was of the opinion that in future where there was no urgency, should be held over to he dealt with by the Board. A discussion took- place among members, the Chairman ultimately asking the Board to definitely fix the amount that the Chairman should have power to bind the Board personally. Mr Meliarry moved that the Chairman lie authorised to spend up to £5. 1 Mr Jeffries moved that the secretary write to several Boards enquiring what is the limit; of unauthorised expenditure of their Chairman.— Seconded by the Chairman. Air Spiers took exception to going outside of the Board 1 for information of how to run their own bnsint’s^. Ml- Davidson said there was no nei eessity for any resolution, and that they should not split straws. There was a slight strain that evening and ihey should allow it to drop. Mr Duff endeavoured to drop nil on the troubled water and suggested tbo * Board go on with the next business. This suggestion was agreed to and the * motions were withdrawn. The Chairman said that while lie i was Chairman lie would not. spend any * amount whatever. Mr Jeffries asked why the Chairman ! took a personal view of the matter. ! October, there were: - Datients in TTospital. 18 males. 14 female- 32: admitted during October 10 males. 7 females—dD total treated. 34 males. 21 females —55: discharged cured. 13 males. 0 females-1.9: discharged relieved. 1 male. 1 female 10. did. 2 males. 1 female—3: total discharged. 10 males, 8 females—24; remaining in hospital. 18 males 13 fomale.s 31 : patients for over two months. 9 males. 0 females- lo.—Received. From House Committee reporting conditions satisfactory at the hospital : that tlio new piano had arrived and was satisfactory: tbat lounge accommodation was required at tbo O.P.
