A motor smash occurred yesterdav morning on the Boss Hoad. Mr .1. Allen, the well-known Boss sawmiller was driving up from Boss, and when crossing the bush tramline of Butler Bros. Huatapu sawmill, a rake ol trucks which the mill locomotive was pushing out to the hush collided with his ear. The ear driver was unable to see tile trucks as he approached, as they came out of a culling upon the mad. The impact knocekd the motor off the road, and caused the trucks to pile up. hut Air Allen fortunately escaped scatheless. The ear. however, was very considerably damaged. It was an Italian machine, almost new, and cost £llOO. A barman at Auckland was sentenced on Tuesday to fourteen days’ imprisonment for tlicit. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said accused was working at a bar at Kllerslic Hu recourse on Saturday. lie was kept under observation and was seen to he slcight-01-hand tricks with several pieces of silver. It was discovered that he had sewn the top of his sock to the inside of the trousers, so that coins made to disappear at I.is waist wore caught. AYhen he was searched, silver amounting to £2 Its ficl was found in his sock. He made a full confession and pleaded that be had succumbed to temptation. The Magistrate, Air F. K. Hunt, said the temptation must have started early in the morning, when accused sewed up the sock.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the local Druids was held last night, a good iiLtciidanco of members being present.. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of two brothers of the Order. Three brothers were reported on tin' sick funds of the bodge. Sick pay to the amount of £2 3s 4d was passed for payment. Accounts as submitted wore passed for payment. A maternity bonus of £6 was also passed for payment. Two candidates were elected by ballot. Five members were initiated into the Order. One proposition for membership was received. It was decided to hold tile competition for the Arch Druids charge early in January. The meeting closed with the usual chorus. i
