The ofiieial recount tor Waitemata has resulted as follows: Mr Harris (U) 7101: Mr Osborne (Lab). 3524; Mr Lamont (NO 1053. Majority for Mr Harris .3577.

LYTTELTON SEAT. BALLOT PAPERS MISSING. CHRISTCHURCH. November 17. Six voting papers are believed to he lost in connection with the Lyttelton electorate. They are absent voters’ papers, and there is a possibility that thev have been slipped by error into a bundle of licensing papers.

The missing voting papers will he identified, if they are found, by comparing their numbers with those of the declarations under which they were claimed. These deelarations are in the returning officer's possession, but the voting papers are missing.

Sonic very interesting facts have conic out in connection with the election. It appears that a number of .seamen to whom seamen’s permits had been issued, found themselves in Lyttelton on the day ol the poll, and voted at the local booths. Their votes, however. have been disallowed as it is presumed that this action was taken under a clause which provides that unless the seam.cn in such a case produces his permit for endorsement, his vote is invalidated. In another case, it is alleged that a seamen’s vote was disallowed on another ground altogether. Of course, rumour is very busy in connection with the election, and it seems certain that, whoever may lie declared elected, a very searching recount will follow the present proceedings. Meanwhile it is impossible to say when the final decision will he reached. Mr F. Lvotts. the Reform candidate, said to-da.v that in view of the closeness of the election, there would bo a magisterial recount.
