PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY. DUNEDIN. Nov. 11. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand opened its annual sessions at First Church last night. Rev. J. Kilpatrick, Mo-derator-Elect. delivered the inaugural address to a large congregation on •'The Head of the Church.” This morning a Communion service was held, prior to the conduct of ordinary business.
The report of Life and Work Committee raised the question of tite attitude of the Church to /lancing. Several speakers said this matter was one of urgent importance. A strong committee was set op to consider the matter and report to the Assembly. The evening assembly was largely devoted to the reception of the Foreign Mission report and addresses were given hv missionary speakers from India. China, and the New Hebrides.. The feeling was expressed that in spite of the grave set back that the mission in Canton had received, it would all tend eventually to the firmer establishment of a native Christian Church. The Governor-General will visit the Assembly on Friday morning.
