AVESTLAND POLL.
The scrutiny of the rolls for the Westland Election were completed yesterday, and the absent voters’ declarations were scrutinised as far as tho returns permitted up to this morning, hut there are .still some papers to arrive to complete the rotes recorded for Westland. To-day the official count began. Air G. Hatch, J.P. living present as official supervisor. As the result of an enquiry thi* morning, from Air H. G. Coles, Returning Officer for AVestland, it was gleaned flint all the absent voters papers have not yet come to hand, and it if expected that tlie result of the election will not lie available until Friday night, probably midnight, at the earliest.
Tlie date on which the writ for the election shou ldbe returned, expires tonight at midnight-, so that it was necessary to-day for the Returning Officer to apply for the date to be extended until .such time as the final result is made available.
[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. LYTTELTON SEAT. CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 11. The count in the Lyttelton electoraro has l>oen suspended, and the scrutineers have been sent home, as tho last of the absent voters’ voting papers is not expected until this morning, and may arrive even later. The view taken hy the Returning Officer is that the secrecy of the ballot demands that- he should not commence the count until all absent voters’ permits are in hand. So far Ihe roll lias lieen checked, and comparisons of signatures .nada with such absent voters’ declarations as have come to hand. AVhen the count will he finished is not certain, as Lite scrutineers lave lieen informed that they will be sent for when required. Air J. N. Neville, Reluming Officer for Lyttelton, announced yesterday morning that the scrutiny ol fito electoral rolls had been completed on Monday morning, and the scrutiny of the signatures on Monday afternoon. The position at present was that ten absent voters’ papers had yet to arrive, and until their arrival the recount would not bo started. Air Neville told a reporter that he had no idea when the absent 'otes would arrive.
THE LYTTELTON COUNT. Cl IRISTCHURCII, November 11
It is expected that the count for tho Lyttelton seat, which was commenced this morning, will he completed by tomorrow evening. There are over 922;? votes to be counted, in addition to about GOO absentee votes.
Absentee votes that the Returning Officer was anxiously awaiting yesterday arrived hy this morning’s mail.

The excellent arrangements made by (lie Telegraph Department for the dispatch of progress and final returns of voting on election uiglii, has been acknowledged in all parts of the Dominion. The following figures will show the volume of business transacted on election day (the numbers at the previous election in 1922 are given in parenthesis). Wellington, forwarded telegrams 1025 (JOtil). received 7528 (5281), transmitted 9958 (0029). Christchurch, forwarded telegrams, 3825 209]), received 4227 (3749), transmitted 8450 (5947). Dunedin, forwarded telegrams 27" (1532). received 1173 (2578). transmitted 3732 (2093). Auckland, forwarded 1924. received (1327, transmitted 15,0.39. Figures for Auckland for 1922 are not available. RESTORATION AT OHINEMURI. POSITION’ STILL DOUBTFUL. WELLINGTON. November 12. The position with regard to Restoration in Ohinemuri is at present far from clear. According to the latest figures Restoration is carried if the informal votes are not counted. The Chief Returning Officer, however, holds that they rank as votes east antf must he taken into account, in which case Restoration is not carried, lie has submitted the matter to the Crown Law Office and until its opinion is available the actual result cannot he known.
OHINEAIURUS VOTE. AUCKLAND. Nov. 11. The final Ohinemuri count in the licensing poll gives restoration 48 votes over the three-fifths majority required. The details tire: —Restoration 4112, No License 3G22, informal 194. POSITION CLARIFIED. WELLINGTON, November 12. The position with regard to Restoration at Ohinemuri has now been clarified to this extent: it is officially stated the Returning Officer will declare the result on valid votes east.
