Yesterday evening Mr O’Mera was digging in his garden, and his dead body was discover to-day, lying face downwards beside his spade. Evidently he had been ■there all night. As ho was under treatment for heart trouble, an inquest "ill be unnecessary.

METHODIST SYNOD. AUCKLAND, Nov. 12.

The question of divinity degrees was discussed by the Auckland .Methodist Synod, and a resolution was unanimously pas-oil recording the Synod’s strong conviction that provision should he made for the conferring of degrees in connection with the University of New Zealand. It was further rocommende a Board of Studios should be appointed to co-operate with the committees which may he appointed by other churches to attain this end.

1920 FRUIT PROSPECTS. HASTINGS, Nov. 25

Discussing the present season’s prospects Mr Adamson, i rohanl inspector for Hawke’s Bay, said although dry weather had prevailed fur some time the orchards were not yet .suffering, and. under good cultivation the continuance of the dry weather was unlikely to seriously alfect the output. The foliage and fruit "ere particularly bright, and crop pres) cels were excellent. Small areas were touched by last Saturday's frost, but the output will not be seriously affected. A large number of younger orchards were coming into the productive stage and there was every prospect of an increase on last year’s crop of apples. He anticipated that the 192(> season would sec arecord fruit export from the district.
