A distinguished visitor to the Alannwatu show is the E. Wilber, of Oueonta. New York, a former United States Consul in New Zealand, who is at present touring the Dominion with his friend, Air W. S. Wh'ipple.

Air Wilber, who is noted for his keen interest in Friesian cattle, and who presented a magnilicient silver cup to the Alaiiawatu A. and P. Association for annual competition, presented .the trophy to this year’s successful competitor, the Piri Land; Company, Auckland. He also took the opportunity of presenting a solid gold medal, fully as large as half-a-crown, bearing tv replica* of the cup, to tlio last season’s winners, the Central Development Farm, In doing so he mentioned tlio somewhat remarkable fact that two brothers' (Afcssrs Stevenson) were in charge of tho respective farms., that won the cup last year and this. Commenting on Lite quality shown in the Friesian exhibits. Air AYilber said that the animals would compare very favourably with the best, no matter where one went. The breed was improving all the time, and lie was very pleased to watch tho endeavours of farmers to bring out tlio very best. He noted with satisfaction that the breeders as tt whole were imbued with the desire to continually improve their herds, and the result was becoming more and more pronounced at every show. New Zealand was striving to produce the very best* stock possible. AVitli regard to New Zealand getterally, Air AYilber lias a keen appreciation of the country and its people. ‘‘l have travelled flic world,” lie said “and 1 have never had tt more delightful post. It is just because tlio New Zealand people arc the right sort. Bigness does not always signify and small as it is. New Zealand is, in, my opinion, one of the most delightful little countries in the world. Tito people say I’ve been good to them. hut. 1 think they have boon remarkably good to me.” Air AYilber will leave New Zealand for Australia next week, hut will return to the Dominion in tt few weeks’ time, when he proposes to spend some time trout fishing, and in touring the North and South Islands. “Uni going to show Air AY hippie, my friend, some of the wonders of your country,” lie eon eluded.
