NUMBER OF ABSENTEE VOTES. The n tun her of absent voters’ permits issued under the old system at the General Election in 1022 was 10,707 out of which Hi. 341 votes were exercised. The number of seamen’s rights issued on that occasion was 2(190, arid 1131 were exercised. The total of absentee votes authorised was time 22,-137 while, the total number of votes exercised was 17.322. The absentee votes will not be counted until after the official recount of the ballot papers is completed. The result of the contest in electorates in which there has been close polling will remain in doubt until the absentees’ votes are counted.
