Damascus is now isolated from the north and from the south. Ail Iratfie and business is slopped. The inhabitants of Damascus are fleeing. Refugees from Beirut report there was serious fighting on Tuesday along the Damascus railway, when French artillery and troops drove otf the re lids. PARIS, Nov. fi. By a more reassuring majority of -100 to 300, the Chamber of Deputies adopted M. Painleve’s proposal to postpone a debate on Syria until after General Sarrail’s statement is placed before the Chamber Committee. The vote is tantamount to one of confidence since it. was carried in the teeth of the Oppositionists’ move Id secure the immediate discussion. It is reported that M. TTciri De Juvenal has been appointed Civil Commissioner in Syria, replacing General Sarrail. At a meeting of the Socialist Party. M. Renaudel, Boncour, Auroil, and Moutet. decided to withdraw their resignations.
