I'hk Prime .Minister has indicated his intention now that the elections are
past, to get busy and start doing things. It was claimed lor .Mr Coates that he is the man who gets things done, and lie must needs keen up to the reputation has lias been given. .Mr Coates has youth and freshness on his side, and a political past with no serious party sins to atone lor. llis political career will count chiefly Hum now, am! the opportunity he has is all the more remarkable. Mr ( nates has shown a disposition to lavor national rather than party polities, lie has some portfolios to fill, and one of his first tasks will he to select Ins new Ministers. This of course is not likely to he done till the polls arc declared, hut it is expected lie will select two Ministers from the South Island and one from the North Island. It remains to he seen on what lines he
reinforces the Cabinet as some indication id the probable national leanings. As far as political gossip goes, however. those of distinct lleforin. leanings are likely to lie selected. Still. Mr Coates is on so high a pedestal at tee moment, hacked almost entirely by “Coates’ candidates.” that he has a
unique opportunity to he complete master of the position in choosing for himself. Tin’ political outlook is snob now that the Prime Minister may create his own atmosphere. Hut as lie is a man of action there may he no oiialn’.s of doubt as to any probable delay. .Mr Coates is likely to go ahead and with the vigor nl youth on his side it may he at full steam. There are now a few promises to he redeemed, so that the next session of Parliament will he a busy one and mr-ii"-piiinliogl v important. Mr Cuui".--begins his task at an age which will enable him to become a record Prime Minister in more than one sense, if the full programme ho lias promised is vigorously gone on with and brought to practical fruition.
