Foil the general elections in progress to-day there are something like 100 candidates for the 7G European electorates. The number of candidates for the respective groups compared with the previous elections are: 1922 192.3 Reform 81 69 National o<< 67 Labor -16 56 Country Independent 11 3 197 190 There are 13 straight out contests. 19 between Reform and I.ahor, 16 between Reform and National, 0 Jje tween National and Labor. 1 between Reform and Independent, and 1 between Laboi and Independent Liberal. There are cornered contests and in one electorate while in five cases there will be four(Orciiml contests, and in one electorate there will be five candidates contesting the seat. Reformers. .'Nationalists and Labour are opposed to one another in triangular fights in 21 constituencies. One seat is filled already. Mr K. fs. Williams having l>een returned unopposed for the Bay of Plenty, while also there are the results of the Maori elections published to-day. The result of the European seats as forecasted by our 'Wellington correspondent, in Monday’s issue was. Reform 39. Liberal or Nationalist 21. and Labor 16.

Li the licensing poll for Westland, the voting in 1919 was: Continuance 3901. State Control 190, Prohibition 2108—total 6859: in 1922. Continuance 1758. State Control 329. Prohibition 2731 - total 7818. For the Dominion vote, the National vote for Continuance in April. 1919. was 261.189. Proliibtion 253.827. In December of the same year, the vote Cont inuaiu e 211.251. State Control 32.261; Prohibition 270.250. In 1922. the voting was: Continuance 282.069; State Control 35.727; Prohibition 300.7991.
