THE WESTLAND SEAT.

MESSAGE FROM PRIME MINISTER ELECTION ISSUE PLAINLY STATED. [Hv Tki.kgraph.] HASTINGS, Oct. 30. In giving to the electors of Westland a message which I hope will be of some help to them, in the important duty they have to [ erform on Nov. 1 1 !i.. I trust that it will he conceded to me that I am doing so in what I am convinced is in the host interests of the country, which I, in common with the people of Westland hold dear.

The ehoite in Westland lies between Mr .Tamos O’Brien, who stands in the interests of the Labour Party and Air T. K. Y. Seddon, who proposes to re* present no sectional interests, but the interests of the whole of his constituents,

.Mr Seddon has stilted that he will not support a motion of no-confidence moved by Labour to oust the Government front the Treasury benches. In these circumstances the Government de ruled not to contest the seat, in ordet to allow Air Seddon a free rott.

f appeal, therefore, to all who do predate extremism in politics, and who hope for the return of one who will bo representative of till the constituents, to cast their votes in favour of Mt Seddon.

Tt does not seem too much to nslc that the electorate once represented by that great patriot and distinguished Imperialist, the late Richard John Beddon, should hesitate before voting for the nominee of a party which includes among its planks, the discarding of all forms of national defence. AYith confidence I have submitted my platform to the jieople. a platform devised to make for national stability, and national safety in the event of threatened tr011,..e. the development of our many resources, and equal opportunities for every citizen in fhe land.

If the electors consider that T am the man to load the Government they will see their course clearly ahead. All they need to remember is that a vote for the Labour candidate is a vote against me. •T. G. COATES.
