Oct. 27. On Saturday the ITon !R. F. Bollard had an exciting experience. From 'Lankan he set off for Port Waikato in Walter Diven’s launch. Heavy vain was falling and the wind on the liver was blowing a gale, and the tide was flowing in at a terrific speed. Off Waiora the little craft struck very heavy seas ami nearly stood on end. providing involuntary baths for the passengers. The craft’s speed for an hour was little and the launch was a perfect switchback railway. The unenviable experience was heightened when the launch struck' on a shoal and there for a brief space she was lashed by the waves romping in from the heads. At length thi* splendid seamanship of Mr Diven prevailed and the launch floated off the shoal and again tackled her journey. Until she- reached the jetty she was heavily buffeted. Berthing was accomplished only by deft handling. Ylr Bollard, speaking of the experience of the party paid a high tribute to tin* seamanship of Mr Diven. who bad worked wonders with the launch in the heavy weather. SALARIES OF MEMBERS.
