FOUR-OAR CHAMPIONSHIP. HAMILTON’S GREAT BID. [Australia & N.Z. Gable Association. .MELBOURNE, Oct. 21. At Henley the four-oar mile race v*ns held in perfect weather. I here was a record attendance. In the first heat Hamilton (New Zealand) beat Melbourne by a length and a half. Banks (Victoria) being third. Hamilton started well and soon had a few feet lead. Although, the stroke Sandos, lost his slide immediately after the start, Hamilton maintained the lead I liriniglioiit. winning easily. Time "niiin tbisecs. In tlu* semi-final. Hamilton drew the North side. Western Australia got away first and was lending by six feet* at the quarter-mile post. Then Hamilton sprinted and caught Western Australia, gaining a two-feet lead at the 11 1 roe-quarter distance. Hoth crews finished strongly. Western Australia winning in a thrilling finish bv two feet. The spectators gave a great ovation In tho crews, some thinking that the result was a dead heat. The New Zealand stroke. Ximdos, said the crew had pulled well, hut had met their equals and were just beaten mi the post, idler a great race. The time was out in -tOsees. Western Australia won the final from Rockhampton by a length and a half.
