Mr Girling and party set out in a launch on an electioneering tour to Port I nderwood lint shortly after starting a fierce southerly gale sprang up. and the party had a rough experience, being soused with seawater, while some were sea-sick, until a- landing was effected at Ocean Bay. From this point, as there was not a hope of the launch facing the storm, the party had to tramp sixteen miles over steep mountain tracks until they reached Rarangi. at the cml of Cloudy Bay. where a car returned with them to Blenheim. The tracks were in an execrable condition owing to slips and overgrowth, and Mr Girling himself and the other members of the party were in the last | stages of exhaustion when Rarangi was sighted and had to be assisted over the steen vtg/ag by means ot which the track finds its way to tho lieach at Rarangi.
