After the boisterous wet weather of Fridav night the fine day on Saturday was a very welcome one. Sunday was even better, the day being a period one. Yesterday for the holiday was also line, while to-day the weather iagain of the best. There were large crowds travelling yesterday in all direction-. and the holiday was generally a very successful one. The Grey Trotting meeting attracted a large number of visitors.

Complaints have reached us of the action of two voting men on motor cycles who made a racing track of the cemetery paths yesterday afternoon for a considerable time, to the danger of others present, including young children. Their action was injudicious to say the least, and a repetition will probably cause them some trouble.
A further reminder is given of the concert and ball in the Public Ball Kanieri to-morrow evening in aid of the school funds. Complete arrangements have been made for the gathering. The senior scholars are giving a one-act play, "Getting Kid of li.” that will give great pleasure, while the other items are of an attractive nature. On arrival of the steamer Wingatui :i Gisborne from Auckland on Friday afternoon, the watersiders declined to answer a call for labour. The explanation given was that they desired to reserve themselves for the Port Darwin, arriving oil Saturday. The steamer accordingly was sent nn to Napier, overcarrying the cargo Iran.shipped from the Wainui at Auckland. The cargo will again have to be transhipped, and will not reach Gisborne before next Thursday.
The Rev. T. N. Cuttle of Greymmith is to be in Hokitika for a couple of days to assist the Rev. Mr Hutson, in a special Evangelistie .Mission in St. Andrew's Church. A good work lias been done in the Presbyterian Clnircli lately and I be results now being gathered arc cheering the hearts of the minister and people. The Bible Classes of the Presbyterian Chorees at Boss. 11 okit ike. Ktnuara and Greymouth held a very successful Rally at Kumara Junction yesterday. They forgaihof-cd tit the seaside in the number of about one hundred. anti spent a most enjoyable time. The conference part of the day was held in the ooeti air. and a cold shower coming up at the time threatened to damp the ardour of the proceedings, hut it was only a passing shower and all wont well. Al.iss Batchelor of Greymouth gave a most, excellent address on Afissions. Having had many years experience on the mission field in China, she was tilde to give first hand information. Rev. T. X'. Cuttle of Greymouth ttlso spoke on the difference in patronising Christ and being a follower of Christ. The Greymouth section had to quit early to lie in lime for the train, ft took a I title time to wean them away from the beautiful surroundings at the seaside, and the real fun. that ever goes with genuine Christianity. so that at train time. the leaders of the party were not within coney of the station. When it was realised that time was about to be called. the leaders dropped to the rear, tttitl the juniors sprinted on In-fore, cheered by Hokitika and Ross contingents who were quite free of anxiety because their train was scheduled two hours later. However, thunks to the consideration of the S.S. all got away, if not to time, at least by the train. The remainder of the party ptit in the two hours wait, for the train to Hokitika. One of the past generation who watched the way the girls and hoys put in the two hours wait, especially the girls, came to the conclusion that the lassies nl' the twentieth century, were lietter than they of the nineteenth, and knowing the secret of their real lightheartedness. he was more sanguine than ever, that life is worth living, and is full of jov for those who know tile secret of Christianity.
