FRIDAY, OCT. 24th. The Council met at 7.30 p.m. Present:—.Messrs G. A. Perry (Alayor), G. 11. Blank, J. King, G. Heinz, It. Orr, I). J Evans, and A. It. Elcock. Apologies were made for the absence of -Messrs Jeffries, Parry and Coulson. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Christchurch City Coucil asking the Council to support a protest at lilcliiug the rights of local bodies.—• Received and to be supported. From Ktunara Goldfields Jubilee (iiiiimitU-e notifying proposed public celebration and inviting assistance towards the movement.—Received; referred to Finance Committee to report. From \V. McKay and Son asking for improvements to the foot path in front of their premises, Tailored Street.— Received and work to lie. pub in hand. Front Hon. Minister of Mines notifying approval of writing off of rents in residence, sites.—Received. From Board of Health conveying its .satisfaction at the institution of a rubbish removal system and agreeing to defer the putting in hand of the suggested drainage .scheme.—Received. From W. Duncan and Co asked approval of sub-division plan.—Received and approved.
From Now Zealand Railways, Christ chit roll, asking Council to reconsider the proposed charge of Is 3(1 per 1,000 gallons to Is— Received ; resolved that the charge ho upheld. From same accepting offer of Council fo supply gravel for railway crossings and agreeing fo spread same.—Received. From (Ireymouth Motors Ltd, quoting for road roller.—Received. From A. Krakosky, asking for a 21 years lease of the municipal reserve, on town boundary.—Received, referred to Reserves Committee to report;. From J. Mein tyro protesting on reduction of salary and asking for reconsideration.—Received: referred to Reserves Committee. From C. Dr Teieliclmnnn and Mr Duff waited on Ihe Council from the Progress Roague asking for assistance from the Council for the purpose of assisting in the distribution of literature emphasising the beauties of Westland. lit view of the failure of arrangements for West Coast district to he represented at the Dunedin Exhibition, it was thought that Ihe host means of bringing Westland under notice was the proposed distribution of booklets and Ihe provision of large photographs of scenic heaulies. They asked lh«' Council to contribute to the extent of a thousand copies. Ifo !hough! it would he a very good investment for the district. Mr Duff endorsed (he remarks of Hie previous speaker and urged support to advertise the district and enable Hie West Const to he kept before Hie visitors to the exhibition.
