.McLeans Pictures present on Friday night, “The Silt Flood,” a Goldwyn picture. The story tells of Stratton’s Cafe in the river of Cottonia, the meeting place ol wealthy stock brokers. One sultry day, Ifrazer (Ralph Lewis) has a quarrel with Swift (John Stoppling) another cotton broker. Frazer’s dork, Hilly Hear (Richard Hix) is giving a little luncheon in the banquet room to Poppy (Helen Chadwick), a chorus girl and some other friends. With Swift is Williard Sharpe (Howard Davies), a politician, who is thought to have acquired money by substituting materials in building a dam above the city. On the street corners ol Cottonia. an itinoront preacher, O’Neill (James Kirkwood) exhorts the people to righteousness. He is followed up by two down-and-miters. who pass ihc hat after the

speaker finishes speaking, and buy drinks with the, money they collect-. They are an actor, Biggins (Otto Hoffman). and an engineer, Nordling (William Oriantond). That- afit-rnoon, Frazer’s clerk. Hilly, overhears a conversation of importance in the office and goes over to his employer’s enemy. Swift, with the information. With this inside tip, iho two make a fortune, and Hilly becomes an independent operatin'. Later Hilly becomes engaged In Swift’s daughter. A few weeks later a cloudburst hits the city, and all these characters arc driven into Ft rat ion’s cafe by the storm. The tlood-proof doors are put up, and Stratton realises that they may he imprisoned a long time. The engineer figures out Hull within a definite peril, (1 the air will be exhausted and they will all suffocate. The. saloon owner serves drinks to the crowd. Suddenly the lights go out; then the stock ticker stops; the exchange must he Hooded. Thou the telephone goes dead. Thev have heen imprisoned in a death (rap, for the dam has given way and the lily is being Hooded. Roppv, who had heen listening at the door, enters. Hilly and she, are united once more in death, they believe. The preacher calls upon Ihe group to join hands in a universal brotherhood. Facing deatli, they follow his lead, (ell of their sins and are absolved oy their comrades as they stand at,out in a circle and sing hymns. The air has heroine so vitiated Dial Frazer is on iht verge of suffocation. The others see that they will all go the same way. and take a quick vote on whether they should (brown open the doors and attempt in swim the flood. They decide |o try Hie flood. The doors are thrown open. A miracle has happened! The flood has receded! They are saved! The supports include a comedy and gazeite. and music by .McLean’s Orchestra.
