HOKITIKA TENNIS CLUB,
The annual meeting of members of tho Hokitika, Lawn Tennis Club was hold in the County Chambers on Fris day 16th inst at 7.30 p.m. s Dr. Baird presided over an atten--3 dance of 16 members. , ANNUAL REPORT. . Tho season was, officially opened on the Sth of November on which day a Progressive Tournament was played. At the commencement of the season there was a nominal membership of 34 ladies anil 26 men—a total of 00 members, and during the season 80 players were otf the roll, 10 lor short term periods as visitors. There was at times, .however, a noted congestion, and the committee resolved in the interests of members to close tile membership list at 70. Only one inter-club match, with All Saint’s Club, was played, it not being found possible to make satisfactory arragements for the usual matches with Greymouth, as in former years. The match with All Saint’s was won by this Club, and it is hoped to be able to arrango further matches for the coming season. Four Handicap Matches were played. Tho Opening Day Tournament was won by Airs Larsen ; Men’s Handicap Doubles by Messrs Beck and A. Aitken; Ladies’ Handicap Doubles by Mrs Larsen and Miss P. Thompson, and tho Closing Day Tournament by Miss Lewis. Early in November the first court was top-dressed, and throughout the season tho three courts have been continuously available for play, and remain at present in very fair condition. Necessary repairs to nets and posts have been done, and extensive repairs were also necessary to the surrounding fences, which now, however, for the most part, are in good order, and should not require Hindi attention during the coming year. Tho thanks of the Club are due (o tho ladies, who as in former years attended to the Saturday tea arrangements, and to Dr. Baird and Dr. Teieltelmanu for donating trophies for the Handicap Doubles play. The Annual Report and Balance Sheet wore accepted and Ix’fore vacating the chair the President presented tho trophies won during the past season. Tho election of officers resulted: President, Dr. Baird (re-elected) ; Vice-President, Air Partridge; Club Captain, Afr Slavcley; Secretaries Air Alorris and ATr Beck; General Committee, Dr. Teichelmann, Messrs Gooch, Snell, Cagney; Alesdames Larsen, Stavelc.v, Alorris, Afiss Lewis, Atiss Davidson. A Ground Committee and a Alateh Committee were also appointed. Thirteen new members were proposed and elected. Various matters were referred to the General Committee for consideration at an early date and Opening Day was fixed for tho first fine Saturday in November.
Hearty votes of thanks wore passed to Dr. Bail'll and Dr. Teichelmann for providing trophies for doubles play during tho season, and also to retiring officers anil committee and to flic County Council for Hie us© of the meeting room.
