BRITISH IX PARIS. PARIS, Aug. i;s. Paris is ;it present enjoying almost record-breaking popularity with visitors from across the Channel. ■‘The influx really began a few days before August Bank Holiday, and will continue, if one can go on advance hookings, until the middle of September,” said the manager of one of tlie biggest English travel bureaux in Paris this afternoon. ‘■it- is fortunate that the American invasion has almost finished," he said, ‘■otherwise there would be no more ! room for the crowds who are daily coming here.” Although Paris is traditionally forsaken by the French people in August, almost every large hotel has the same tale to tell “full up.” The city is literally populated by Britons. The English language is heard everywhere on the boulevards, at theatres, in cafes, and all places of amusement. In many cases the number of motorcoaches running on the Versailles and Fontninblenu services has been doubled. The Seine steamers plying between the Louvre and Saint Cloud are often obliged to leave crowds of waiting passengers on the quayside. The “Paris by Xight” tours report bookings two or three weeks ahead. Since the Arts Exhibition opened there has been a steady supplementary contingent of visitors from Great Britain. Deauville, Le Touquet, Erretat Dieppe, Boulogne, and all the Channel resorts aro also'crowded with English visitors.
