A “crime wavelet” has swept over Palmerston North, four petty burglaries having been committed and three valueless chetpies issued within a week. A marauder gained admittance to the Girls’ High. School and to a small dairy in another part of the town about a week ago. A residence near the school was (Mile red on .Saturday, the intiudet eluding chase by the occupier. On Wednesday last the pavilion of the Afanawatu Bowling Club was entered and ransacked. The Conciliation Council in AVellingt,,ii to-day further considered the Dominion dispute created I>y the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Society with a view to securing a Dominion award. Practically the whole of the general provision- of the. old award were agreed to. hut the general provision in respect of ship work was amended to provide that overtime, should commence after eight hours’ work on an ordinary day and after four hours' work on Saturday, instead of after -M hoars a week had lieen worked. After discussion the decision on the question of hours was held over. 011 overtime and holidays, the society's representative agreed to the clauses of the ohl award, with the exception that the question of payment for holidays should he referred to the conrL.
