(Extract from -Journal of House of Representatives, December 19th. 18-10. page 136.) .Air Ormsbco from the select committee to which wax referred the engrossed hill for “An act to amend an act entitled ‘An act, to regulate Tavern and Grocery Licenses’ ” reported the same hack to the House, with a substitute for the original hill, which was read.
.Mr Ross moved to amend the report in the 2nd section hv striking out “810" and inserting “825." when. On motion of Air Hardin, The report and proposed amendment thereto, were laid on the table. Air Aliii'phy, of Cook, moved to strike out all after the enacting clause, and insert us follows:
■'That- after the passage of this act. no person shall he licensed to sell vinous or spirituous liquors in ibis State, and that any person who violates this act by selling such liquors shall be lined in the sum of one thousand dollars. to he recovered before any court having competent jurisdiction." Thus another great maker of history gives his verdict against the iniquitous farce of Prohibition. Prohibition has no justification, either historical, scriptural. ethical, or fiscal.
