A somewhat humorous incident occurred on Mawhera (Quay, Greymouth. yesterday afternoon when the Borough workmen were larrnig a portion ot the road. The tar was being liberally applied to tin- Mirfaee. when a Chinaman, a well-known figure around tin- town, endeavoured to cross over the sticky patch. Either the pitch proved too strong a lasciuat ion to tin- Celestial s boots, or John took a siiddcli liking to tJte iimi'kv bkicknoss, lor the worthy son of l.otuslainl took a "header into ihe sticky n-.ess. much to the amusement of passers by. It look some time for him to extricate himsell but In- finally did so, minus a pair of shabby boot s. -A rgns.”
