MEN'S HAT SIZES FOR WOAIEN. LONDON. Aug. 4. Compelled hv the shingling, bobbing and Eton crop fashions to make smaller hats for women, the leading manufacturer' have decided to make women's hat' in what have come to be known as “men’s sizes.’’ No man who has seen a saleswoman compelled to put a hundred hats before his wife before she finds one to suit will regard this another incursion of woman into man's domain. "A seven and one-eighth, please, in a sky blue Celt" will narrow down the search considerably. “There was never any general use of hat sizes for women until they reduced their mensureable head circumference." a reporter was informed by a firm of manufactures of women’s lints " although the circumference in inches was often used as an index." That a size as small as 5J should be registered—smaller than men are ever known to ask for—is stated by the hatters to be because women's beads are smaller than men’s. The 8 size is for the woman who still keeps all her ; tresses. Pointing out the advantages of the new system, a London hatter observed ; “It makes it easier for women to order bats by telephone!”
