THURSDAY, OCTOBER Bth. (Before H. i’. Lawry, Esq.. S.AIQ LICENSING ACT. A young man charged with being unlawfully on licensed premises (Three .Mile Hotel) during prohibited hours pleaded not guilty. After hearing Sergt. King and the defendant, a conviction was recorded and a fine of 20s and costs 7s was inflicted. WANDERING CATTLE. Borough Inspector. W. Gavlor, (Air Park) v. I). Davidson, a charge of allowing a cow to wander. Fined 3s and costs 17s (id. Same v. C. Kerr. I cow. Fined U)s and costs 17s fid. cycling without light. Smile v. E. 11. McGuigan. a charge of riding a bicycle at night without a light. Fined 3s and costs 17s (id. Police v. Win. Veitch, a charge' of allowing a motor ear to stand without a light at- night. Fined 3s and costs 7.5. Same v. J. S. Langford, a similar offence. Filled 3s and costs 7s. PROHIBITION ORDER. An application for a prohibition order against a local resident, was made by the police, and opposed. After hearing evidence, ll- ' order was made. AIAI NT EX AX C E OR D ER. A charge of failure to pay a maintenance order was made against the same defendant, arrears £lO9 9s.—Adjourned for one month to enable defendant to make payments. PROHIBITION ORDER. The police applied for a prohibition order against a local resident, which he opposed. An order was made for 12 months. DEBT CASES. J. Natali (Mr Murdoch) v. If. Koivn. judgment) summons £22 Ms. Order made for payment of 22 3s per calendar month, costs £2 Ids were added. FISHERIES ACT. Inspector of Fisheries. C. J. King, v. David Stuart (Air Murdoch) a charge of depositing sawdust in Hokitika river contrary to the provisions of the Fisheries Act. A plea of not guilty was entered. James .Milliter, deposed he had a whitebait trench position on the Hokitika river about 10 chains below the Hokitika-Kanieri Coy's sawmill. Had seen the sawdust from the mill coming into the liver through, a sluice box on the Kith of September. To Air Murdoch: He did not see Mr Stuart that morning. James Foote gave evidence that on till' morning of Kith of September he saw the full output, of sawdust from the mill coming) into the river. To Mr Murdoch: lit' never made a suggestion to Stuart that if he had given witness a few pounds (here would lie no trouble or proscenium. He told Stuart it would he belter for hint to pay witness £IOO for the damage and loss the sawdust hud cost hint last year. If Stuart had paid him £IOO it, would have been for the damage done lasi year. If lie had received that he would not have stopped objecting to the deposit of the sawdust this year.
