CHRISTCHURCH. Oct. 7. Ever since the rescue ol Daly and Archer from No 2 tunnel. Lake (oleiidge, where they were entombed by a "fall of earth on Friday morning, nn'ti have been at work putting in a cross-drive to reach the bodies ol Green, AfacFarlti-ne and .Mc Donald. A cross-cut- from the main drive was commenced at four o’clock this afternoon, and it is expected that (ho fallen maswill he reached by to-morrow morning.
There is little chance of getting lo anv of the bodies before evening. CHRISTCHURCH, October 8.
The departmental inquiry into the accident at Coleridge will he held asoon as the Public Works Department has had an opportunity of examining for an ollieial report. The Prime Minister expressed the opinion this morn i n „ that a public inqtirv would not h - necessary. The collapse in the tunno' seemed to have been one of those accidents that could not he iorseeu ot prevented. There seemed to he n doubt that the timbering was adequate.
