LOCARNO CONFERENCE
[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association
LOCARNO, (let. 0.
A singularly good and sympathetic: feeling was apparent during two hours’ session of the Pact Conference to-day, but no critical questions have yet been reached. such as concern the arrangements under which Germany should cuter the League of Nations, and the conclusion of Western and Eastern pacts.
It is believed the jurists have reached a conclusion in regard to a Western Pact, but- a serious difference of opinion still exists between Eraneo-Poli-li and German standpoints regarding an Eastern one.
The jurists have completed the text of the Pact, which consits of eleven articles, eomprisug a double pact, a Franco-German pact, and a. BolgoGcrmaii. guaranteeing tbc frontiers, Britain engaging to defend the country attacked, while the League of Nations is to decide who is the aggressor. It is hoped these will be settled before the negotiation of the terms of a French guarantee for Germany’s eastern frontiers, and Germany’s entry into the League of Nations.
