VOTE FOR SEDDON

The candidates so far announced, says the " Grey Star ” of yesterday, referring to the Westland seat, are Air T. K. V. Seddon. the former .Member, who is standing as a Nationalist, and Air O’Brien, who is the Labour Party s nominee. It is to he hoped that tlit- issue will he left clear-cut between these two nominees, so that split-voting can lie avoided, and the victor represent the majority of his constituents. Inless the very unexpected happens, Air .Seddon should triumph, as there is no doubt that loyalists and coiislituUoua 1 ists in Westland greatly outnumber those advocating Socialism and what i> aptly termed ” Red Fed-ism. Air O’ Brie'll had 1017 votes against him. and owed his election entirely to the divison of effort, among his opponents. That piece ol luck lor him will not he available this year, and unless gross apathy pievials amongst Reformers and Nationalists, he has not the least chance of re-election. We strongly urge Reformers and Nationalists and all those wiio claim to he non-party, to work horn this out on helmll ol the constitutionalist candidate, Air Seddon. He has given satisfactory assurances re the fusion proposals, and Reformers and Nationalists can vote for him without any sacrifice (it political principle, m without ally disloyalty to their own particular party. Mr Seddon needs no introduction to the constituency which he so long represented, and in which the memory ol his late hither, will ever he honoured. Air Seddon. lor some years, has been resident in the i iiustitiii-ncy. and is. thus, more quaii lied than he fori- to learn of its wants, ami to see that the fullest consideration is given to the wishes ol Westland people. There will he opportunities during the next tew weeks to touch on the various details of the policy up hold hy Air Seddon. hut on general principles alone, he has a strong case for enthusiastic support. He is now touring the constituency to outline to every elector his political faith, and so far his gatherings have been very successful. There is reason to believe that, lie will go front strength to strength, because his cause is tlie cause of all classes, urban and rural. He does not promise wage-earners, for instance. the earth, the millenium. and a few other things thrown in, in exchange for their support, hut he does guarantee them a lair deal. On national grounds in general, and to meet Westland's needs in particular, we strongly recommend Air Seddoii’s candidature to all Westland electors, and if they do their part as well as the candidate is trying tu do his, there is no doubt that in the new Parliament Westland will he represented hv Mi Seddon.
