Herbert Smith. President of the Miners’ Federation, in the course of a discussion, attacked the Dawes Scheme. He said it was killing the labour movement. If the Labour Party did not enquire into its operations and results, the miners' international would do so. Mr MacDonald associated himself with Mr Smith's remarks. Tie defended the Labour (iovernment’s action rogardino reparations and claimed they took the reparations problem out of the hands of a politieal commitiee. and put it in the hands of an economic, and more or less impartial committee. Had that step been properly and energetically followed up it would have been a step forward in the emaneipny tion of Kuroepan working classes. w MR MaeDONALD REGAINS \ CONTROo. LONDON. Oct. T ■ The “Daily ‘News.’’ commenting on the Labour Conference, says the general feeling is that Mr MacDonald has completely reasserted his dominant influence over the party.
