OBITUARY
A painfully sudden death took pLu< at Westport yesterday afternoon. Mr .Scanlon, proprietor oi' Scanlon's Hotel, who was by most people thought, to ,m the mend, after a serious illness, took a had turn about, mid-day, end. in spite of all efforts, expired. Mr Scanlon was a native of Jluller, and w u .s about 5-1 years of age. He was really a Maeksniith hy trade, having been at one time an apprentice of the bite Pat Kelly, the former owner of what is now known as Riley's l'ottndry. Air Scanlon was formerly a prominent oar-man in the Kawatiri Rowing Club. He was also one of the promoters ol the Trotting Club, having held office from the commencement, lie wa-. in addition, a Potller rep. foot--I,oiler in his day, and in latter years was a prominent supporter oi the Star Football Club.
