FRENCH PRESS DISSATISFIED r(ON DON. Sept. 24,
The “Times” Paris correspondent says the French press is anything but satisfied at the recent League of Nations proceedings, accusing Britain of adopting a deliberate policy of obstruction and thus preventing anything useful being accomplished. This verdict has tjcou slightly modified by the reported British at"eptance of AL Louchetir’s proposal for an international economic conference *. but the pietailing assumption is that Britain is d" termined to keep aloof from international, co-operation and is not giving the League a chance of interfering with Tier actions.
Tlit' following is n typical statement from the “Oeuvre” : —“All efforts t-lic Assembly tried to make to immense or extend tlie hciiguo’.s prestige Ims lieen blocked liy the British objections.” The newspaper “T.o information.” after paying a tribute to Lord Cecil's .mod intentions says: “The presence of the British delegation can he regarded as a sort of camouflage. Tt is a discreet veil the Foerign Office uses t ocovcr its real sentiments. These, however, are certainly not the views of the French Government and it is most regrettable the press should mislead public opinion at a time when. M. Briand's various efforts are beginning to convince the French people that Britain and France are still friends anil Allies and intend to remain so.”
