THAMES, Sept. 21

Mr \\\ E. CL Willy, Nationalist candidate for Thames, addressed the electors. He claimed to understand the workers conditions, lie favoured two issues only in the liquor question, an elective upper house, and preferential voting, that maternity homes he a direct charge on the State. He complained of the laxness of the Prisons Hoard. The candidate eulogised Mr railway policy, but contended that all orders for rolling stock should he placed m New Zealand. He advocated cheaper telephones and attacked the Public "Works, Wnihou River Improvement, ami Hnuraki Plains Drainage Schemes, which he declared- would have to tome eventually on the consolidated funds. A vote of thanks was accorded to the candidate.

CARTERTON, Sept. 21

Air F, H. Arkle, Nationalist candidate for Wairarapn seat, opened his campaign last night. He was supported by Mr Masters M.P.. in a speech cn familiar lines. Mr Arkle urged closer settlement. Mr Masters attacking the shortcomings of the Government an replying to Mr McLeod, said the p< liev was discussed at the Fusion Conference, and Mr McLeod knew it. .' resolution was adopted that the time had now arrived for the formation of a National Party.
