[Australia A- N.Z. Cable Association.] BIG FIRE AT NEWCASTLE. SYDNEY. Sept. 22. A lire destroyed the bond store and the store adjoining of Frederick Ash Limited, at Newcastle. The buildings which were hoLli occupied by the same linn, contained a large quantity of kerosene and oil. and burned so licreoly that- an hour after the commencement of the outbreak both were hoaj's of ruins, all the walls collapsing. The damage is very heavy. A GHASTLY MURDER. SYDNEY. Sept. 22. Mr 11. Campbell Mac-lie, a well-known Actuary and the Consul for Spain, has been advised from Java that Tbs wile, who was very popular in Sydney society. and who was spending a holiday in Java, was found dead in her room at a hotel in I’atavia. with her throat cut and ghastly wounds on her body There is no due to the murderer. The crime apparently was without motive. B.A.W.R.A. HOLDERS TAXED MELBOURNE Sept. 22.
Consternation has been caused by the Federal Taxation Department issuing an order bringing the sums received by the holers in the B.A.W.R.A. above 2(ls within the s-ope of income taxation. As some 70.090 shareholders are affected, the taxation will approximale1v amount to one million sterling.
